SIR – The letter from R G Jennings (T&A, June 4) once again reflects the feeling of negativity surrounding the Odeon and the overall feeling of negativity endemic in Bradford today.
In my view, this is the biggest reason we always lag behind in developing this city which I, for one, am very proud to live in.
Yes, neither organisation is sharing the full details of how they propose to fund their respective projects, but are they obliged to reveal all the funding details?
They are both bodies displaying something we have not seen in Bradford recently – entrepreneurial spirit! They are not stupid, they know the risks involved and are willing to undertake their project with a certain measured degree of risk.
Banks have entire risk departments which assess risk every day. I bought our house 20-something years ago. I knew how we were going to pay the mortgage when we first undertook it, but we had no idea how we were going to pay the mortgage 20 years hence. That is called risk.
We all undertake risk every day in different degrees, so let’s not be negative any longer when it comes to giving Bradford that shot in the arm it needs.
Let’s encourage enterprise as our forefathers did when Bradford first started to grow from a village.
John Hargreaves, Cooper Lane, Bradford
