SIR – I was horrified to read in the Telegraph & Argus how the family of Hawwa Khan had to wait 19 months for the inquest of their lovely little daughter in such tragic circumstances (T&A, May 24).

My husband, son, daughter and myself were involved with the Bradford Coroners Office in 2005 when our youngest son Edward, who was 25 years old, died. He had suffered depression and died after taking tablets when everything became too much for him.

We as a family know the devastating effect this has not only on the parents but siblings, grandparents and extended family. We waited a year for our inquest which seemed too long.

The serving coroner on Hawwa Khan’s case was Peter Stalker who resigned, surely somebody could step in and speed things up for a grieving family. Do they really know the terrible toll it takes on parents and family with a wait of nearly two years for an inquest.

I feel the Bradford Coroners Office needs to “up its game” and serve the people of Bradford more compassionately and sensitively and give us a better service when it means so much.
