SIR – On April 15, the European parliament voted to introduce new regulations affecting the construction of heavy goods vehicles.
The intention is to eliminate drivers’ blind spots and install larger windows to give added protection to other road users like pedestrians and cyclists.
This sort of legislation exposes the hypocrisy of UKIP’s stand on ‘laws from Europe’ which they would have us believes are an unnecessary burden on UK trade and industry.
It also illustrates the folly of leaving the EU when – as Philip Bird continues to remind us – we would be welcomed as a trading partner.
If we still have an HGV manufacturer here, vehicles sent to Europe would have to comply with their regulations but because we would no longer be members, we would have no say in how they were drafted.
