SIR – I read the article in the Telegraph & Argus regarding the attendance of councillors who chair the various Council committees and noted that it did not portray an accurate picture of events.
While the piece provided accurate figures for attendance at the meetings when held, it did not reflect the fact that often meetings are cancelled and re-scheduled, due to councillors asking for them to be.
Thus, it is very hard for them to secure high attendance figures and rather than lauding some for it, despite those not being the ones with the highest attendance rates, it may be more appropriate for questions to be asked of those who still did not manage to attend a very high percentage of their meetings.
The three Conservative chairmen of Overview & Scrutiny Committees receive no mention at all, despite having 100 per cent attendance records, which begs the question how complete was the information which was supplied under the Freedom of Information request?
Councillor Russell Brown, Dockroyd Lane Oakworth, Keighley
