SIR – Iain Morris’s kind words (Letters, April 17) shouldn’t assume that I am unconcerned about the artistic and environmental arguments regarding the trees on Victoria Road, Saltaire.

It is my hope that an outcome is found which will incorporate as many views as possible. Disabled access is important but not the only consideration.

For example, not all the trees obstruct wheelchair users. Those which cause pavements to heave and narrow are an obvious problem, and it would be good to have these replaced with more suitable plantings.

But what of the less obstructive remainder? Who knows whether a mixed – rather than a blanket – solution will be possible?
