SIR – Edward McMillan-Scott MEP (Letters, April 8) claims that he would like a public debate on whether we should leave or stay in the EU. This is despite the fact that his party (along with Labour) blocked the Conservative party’s Bill in this Parliament to have an In/Out referendum.
Nevertheless, if he would like to debate the merits of leaving or staying in the EU in the Shipley constituency, then I am very happy to take part in that debate with him.
As his party leader Nick Clegg demonstrated so ably in his recent debates on this issue, the more people listen to the arguments, the more likely they are to want to leave the EU.
So come on Edward, let’s have that public debate in Shipley and you can come and tell my constituents why you and your party don’t trust them to have the final say in a referendum.
Philip Davies MP, Salts Mill Road, Shipley
