SIR – Government figures indicate that there will be at least 360 extra cars using the Thackley village road to do the everyday things like going to work, taking the children to school (there are no local places) or shopping should Persimmon build on Cote Farm.

In answer to our traffic experiment on Saturday involving 20 cars and a resulting half-mile hold-up, Persimmon state they have done lots of detailed studies and can ensure that the traffic from Cote Farm will enter the morning jam with the upmost efficiency.

To those of us who experience the present heavy traffic conditions, such news is of little comfort. Perhaps Mr Gradwell can rustle up the estimated 540 school places (Government figures again) our local schools are supposed to provide, and beam people to work Star Trek-fashion?

When you consider that another estate of similar size is also planned at Simpson Green, then the future isn’t looking good for Idle and Thackley or indeed for Greengates, Calverley etc.

I await with interest the unveiling of Persimmon’s master plan of traffic assessment and in-depth reports. Until that happy day I for one will do my best to convince people to fight this ill-conceived fiasco.
