SIR – Another week and another leading business comes out in support of Britain’s continued membership of the EU. This time it is Diageo PLC, the world’s biggest spirits company, which has warned against Britain leaving the European Union, providing yet further evidence that it is only the Liberal Democrats who have it right on Europe.
Diageo’s chief executive recognised the major benefit of having the EU as a significant bloc promoting global trade. Crucially, they also backed the “efficiency” of the European single market, in helping to ensure that its pan-European business did not have to grapple with different rules across countries.
As business after business comes out in favour of Britain staying in, there is one question to ask. Do you really want to risk so much by leaving? The European elections on May 22 give everyone a chance to cast their vote on Europe. If you want to vote to protect British jobs and investment, the choice is very clear: vote for the party of in, vote Liberal Democrat.
