Sir – Jim Greenhalf (T&A, February 17) is right in reminding your readers about the plethora of groups by their names set up to make Bradford “a successful European 21st Century city” during the past 20 or so years with little or limited success.

The sad fact is that Bradfordians have never been completely told about the failure of any of these groups to do so. Each time there is a riot or a new funding scheme from the centre makes resources available, the phoenix rises from its ashes with few new feathers to its wings.

Either the politicians, policy and decision-makers have been scared of revealing the truth or the activities of these groups were never critically monitored and reviewed. Perhaps, the reality is the combination of both.

It is interesting that the new Bradford Matters Group’s chairman claims to have had “intensive discussions about where Bradford is going and has gone wrong” among its members.

I would expect him to show courage and share his findings with nearly half a million ordinary citizens to gain their support and confidence in his group. Furthermore, it might even encourage the well-resourced communities to do things on self-help terms and push the group’s plans more speedily forward.
