SIR – Our MP Philip Davies is usually a calm and confident operator. Therefore I am surprised my “pathetic” and “childish” criticism has upset him so much (Letters, February 6). Asking the Labour-led Bradford Council to build the Shipley Eastern Bypass is not enough. The Council is already persuaded, which is why it is safeguarding the land. What the Council does not have is money – and that’s where Mr Davies is needed.

Money for local authority projects and services comes predominantly from the Government. Mr Davies is our representative in Westminster and his Conservative Party is in charge of the Government.
