Inconvenient location SIR – The letter from J Murphy (January 21) regarding the new building at BRI and the problems it will create for car parking is quite true.

There is no room now. I feel BRI should be closed down and a new one built closer to the city centre as it is too far away for most people. St Luke’s should have an A&E as this is near the centre.

Imagine the people of such areas as Eccleshill – an ambulance has a long way to go in an emergency.

A few years ago I was driving my company van along Westgate Hill, on to the Drighlington bypass. Suddenly I had chest pains. I rang 999, paramedics arrived and checked me over. I heard one say to the other: “Where do we take him? BRI is too far away. We’ll take him to Dewsbury, it’s nearer.”

I was in for ten days, causing problems for my wife when it came to visiting times.

Mind you, it was one bus ride, whereas it is two buses to BRI. Dewsbury Hospital isn’t far from the town centre, as is LGI in Leeds (right in the centre). Why is it always a problem in Bradford?

Getting to BRI during evening rush hour to visit someone is a non-starter. Maybe it would have been better to build a hospital on the Westfield site.
