SIR – Regarding the wearing of veils by Muslim women. I totally agree with Mohammed Ajeeb, it has now become a fashion thing. I worked in Saudi Arabia, the cradle of Islam. In certain parts of the country thousands of women do not wear the veil.
Women police officers and women soldiers are not allowed to wear a veil as part of their uniform. I saw women in shops lifting their veils while talking to male shop assistants, as a mark of courtesy and manners. They had no problem with that, so why should it be a problem in the UK?
If a woman wants to wear a veil, that’s up to them, but if there was a little ‘give and take’ there would be no problem.
