SIR – Standing next to radio masts on Ilkley Moor, there can clearly see a dome-shaped structure in the distance. Delivering goods to a company at Ainley Top near the M62, again I can see this iconic building.

The Richard Dunn Sports Centre is a landmark in Bradford – a place amateur sports clubs use for training purposes, a place that is in use on Saturdays for cyclists on its long track.

It’s not just a swimming pool, yet the council are to pull it down.

What then? What will be put in its place? Where will all the regulars go? How can another building replace a vast area such as its outdoor facilities?

The other buildings are swimming pools, not sporting venues. Why doesn’t the Council leave things alone?

If they’ve got money to spare, then put it into Odsal stadium and make it the Wembley of the North. A crazy idea, you might say, but not as crazy as this Council, which wants to knock it down – a building named after one of our sporting heroes.

Stop wasting our money.

The pools are OK, leave them alone and concentrate on getting our roads in order or even sort out the Odeon problem.

Turn this into a venue in which we can attract top stars to entertain us.

You already have a problem with the Westfield site. Get that sorted out before anything else, if you can.
