SIR – How disappointing to read David Barnett’s account of the action of three ‘yobs’ on his bus going home after work (T&A September 13). I wonder if they were going home from work?

I know that these three are not representative of all young people, but it does go on, we have all seen similar instances. The disappointing thing is that they won’t even have seen the article. They probably don’t read too well and certainly don’t read newspapers. One thing is always obvious in these cases. That is the fact that it was three of them. If any one of them had been on their own, they would not act in this way for fear of being confronted by an objector to their behaviour.

One to one is poor odds to them. They can only work as a pack. I feel sorry for these cowards. Maybe if the entire bus community turned on them, they would cease, but this won’t happen.

Most people are just too nice to get involved in a confrontation.

So, we will just have to put up with it. Next time it happens, David, feel pity for them, not anger. They are more to be pitied than blamed.
