SIR – The other day, I decided to watch Wyke Rugby League Club play their first match of the season, a club I played for many years ago. I met other former players, whom l I have not seen for many years. “Why do you write letters to the T&A? You are wasting your time and stamps,” they said.

I write to let off steam, just as all others do, giving their opinions on everyday life. They tell me nothing will ever be done, Bradford Council will never do what you suggest, nor will Network Rail and Metro when you write about Low Moor station.

As others do, I write to moan about the crackpot ideas this Council comes up with, letting people build supermarkets when the locals don’t want them, locals living next to green belt land who don’t want houses spoiling their views of the countryside.

The name ‘Westfield’ has become a by-word in Bradford. Build tower blocks on the site then all the shops/stores that are still open will be safe.

Scrap the idea of the HS2 rail link and pump some money into linking up our two stations. Electrify the lines to Leeds and Manchester. That way Bradford will no longer be called the “dead end” city.

I could go on. Maybe my old friends and relatives who also say the same to me are right. Maybe we need new councillors. Maybe all of us who write should stand at the next elections.
