SIR – I am in complete agreement with Joe and Rhona Woollard, the couple in the article Speeding appeal launched by pair (T&A, August 28).

I also live in Bogthorn, near Oakworth, Keighley, on the main Oakworth Road, and can confirm on occasions cars reach speeds between 40 and 70mph travelling in either direction.

There are certain boy racer cars I can identify as culprits, as some of these, when travelling through Oakworth and after reaching Slaymaker Lane, put their foot down, and by the time they are in line with my house, are in excess of 50mph.

I have an old 1970s photograph of the main road showing the Oakworth sign, and next to it was a round, red-lined 30mph sign.

These signs have long gone, and should they return, I don’t think they would make any difference to the speed people drive, but would certainly be a reminder of the limits.

Speed cameras are the only way to combat the lunatic drivers but, of course, it would be difficult to place these in the area we are talking about without affecting someone’s property, and that would create complaints.

I certainly wouldn’t be happy if one was plonked outside my house spoiling the view.
