SIR – A few months ago, the T&A published details of the latest plans for the highway changes at Saltaire roundabout, and since then, the paper has kept us well informed on progress.
However, I had to smile when I realised what is envisaged for the eventual outcome, and I use the word “progress” with a pinch of salt.
Back in 1949, when I was seven, my family moved from Pudsey to live off Avondale Road, Shipley. I went to Albert Road infant school, and mum walked me to school and back every day.
Trams were running from Forster Square, Bradford, to Shipley and they were garaged overnight in the Saltaire tram shed building – it had a large turntable at the front.
There was no traffic roundabout and vehicles drove straight through, when the traffic lights indicated.
All this was 64 years ago, so the new exciting plan to revert back to what it was when I was a schoolboy indicates making clear progress!
