SIR – I have no problem with raising the maximum age for jurors to 75 but I think at the same time they should raise the minimum age to 21.
We have many bright 18-year-olds but with the best will in the world their experience of the world is inevitably limited and emerging science about brain development suggests that most people do not reach full maturity until the age 25.
You cannot put an old head on young shoulders and I think it too heavy a burden for those fresh out of school, or even still there, and potentially unfair to defendants.
