SIR – As a Baildon village resident, I am not as you state enraged (T&A, July 5) but rather slightly amused that the travellers have cocked a snook at the Council and utilised the almost purpose-built and empty Buck Lane site.
They have to go somewhere and their presence there will free some other private land or car park from the inconvenience of their occupancy.
They will cause far less disruption and traffic congestion than the proposed business park and they are merely continuing the traditional relationship between Baildon and the travelling community.
My view is that the Council, through the traveller liaison officer, should come to a gentleman’s agreement whereby, subject to certain conditions, the travellers are allowed to stay until just before construction work actually starts.
