SIR – The West Yorkshire Integrated Transport Authority meeting of June 28 was unanimous across all parties and all districts in its view that bus operators have not as yet set out clearly enough how they would address problems of people unable to catch a bus because they have the ‘wrong’ ticket valid for only one company.

The meeting also considered that much of the operators’ proposal lacked detail, so its value to fare-payers and council tax-payers was impossible to assess.

Metro will continue work on introducing a franchising system (known as a Bus Quality Contract Scheme) which would provide an integrated, high-quality network with guarantees that taxpayer investment would bring benefits for customers rather than unjustified rewards for shareholders. There is also strong public support for greater accountability that a London-style system would bring.

I understand bus operators still want to develop an alternative approach, and Metro will listen carefully to further suggestions, but, contrary to the article (T&A, June 25), Metro will not be funding their costs of doing so.
