SIR – I’m afraid correspondent Rita Robertshaw, (Letters, June 10), is avoiding the point.
That point is that due to the economic mess left by Labour, the Government has had to cut public spending (as would a Labour Government).
Whitehall does not direct where cuts will fall – that is down to individual local authorities. Labour, especially the shadow Government, has refused to point out where their cuts would fall.
Nor was that mess due to some international banking conspiracy, as some Labour supporters would have you believe. (New) Labour wholeheartedly embraced the worst aspects of capitalism.
Ed Balls even warned other parties not to spoil things by calling for (more) regulation. That could have hindered his money-grabbing friends in the City and banks!
