SIR – I read national and local newspapers and watch and listen to the news and it has become apparent that the recent trend is to reduce what I term street furniture – ie road and information signs.
Indeed, some towns have got rid of all signs except street names and found that by doing this the traffic flows more smoothly and pedestrians and drivers take more care.
Having stated this, what do I see when driving along towards the Bingley roundabout at Cottingley Bar, but yet another electronic information sign.
As well as being a distraction to drivers, who should have their eyes on the road, these signs give very limited information about traffic problems, and having received this information there is very little that drivers can do to avoid any hold-ups due to congestion in most areas of Bradford.
I am not sure who is responsible for these electronic signs, but can the cost be justified in these days of austerity and do we really need any more clutter and distractions on our roads?
