SIR – I’m very puzzled by the school holidays these days. I’m a great-grandma and when I was at school everyone had the same time off.

If your friends went to other schools you could still get together.

There was Easter, Whitsuntide, summer six weeks and Christmas. Now it seems each school picks their own holidays.

How their parents cope when their children go to different schools; young ones have to be minded, older ones left at home.

I know parents have to work, one wage is no good now with the economic climate as it is today.

Last week I asked two children when do you return to school. One said Tuesday the other said Thursday. Where is the common sense? Can they not make them all the same. They used to finish Fridays and open Mondays.
