SIR – I look forward to reading Kris Hopkins’s (pictured) public apology in your newspaper for the grotesque waste of £10 million of public money being used to pay for his ex-party leader’s funeral.

How ironic that this month we are told there is insufficient public money available to prevent benefit cuts for the poor, the disabled, the unemployed and those in work who cannot survive on low wages, yet at the same time, this Tory-led coalition gives tax cuts to millionaires.

Mrs Thatcher was a millionaire, as is her son Mark, so why cannot the family pay for this unnecessarily-elaborate funeral?

Or, even better, why was it not privatised so the Tories’ friends in the City could express their gratitude to Mrs Thatcher for privatising public utilities and allowing them to pay themselves obscene salaries and bonuses?

While many people in Keighley are having to choose between eating – with a growing number using food banks – and heating their homes, Ofgem has just announced the big six energy suppliers are making £95 profit from every household in Keighley – a profit margin of seven per cent. This cold-bloodied profiteering is the true legacy of Thatcherism.
