SIR – Television is overloaded at the moment with cookery programmes (11 on four channels on Wednesday, March 13), yet there is not one chef or cook who takes pride in the vocation he or she represents by wearing the traditional chef’s hat, or any kind of head covering for that matter, which I thought was a must for anyone working in the food industry.
The more famous offenders being Nigella Lawson swishing her hair about; Gordon Ramsay scratching his head in the kitchen; Jamie Oliver who always has an unsavoury look about him; one fat lady, Mrs Chocywockydodah, who should not be allowed into her own kitchen; Nigel Slater and James Martin, both with floppy, messy hair dangling over the food; and worst of all, don’t read this next bit if you are squeamish, the Hairy Bikers.
So-called celebrity chefs shouldn’t even look at contestants’ exhibits if they are bare-headed. What is the Department of Health and Hygiene doing?
