Re Buck Lane development.
I would be grateful if I could use your columns to thank everyone who has supported us in our opposition to this scheme over the last two years. We have received enthusiastic support from residents of Baildon and beyond who helped us to get 1,700 signatures on our petition. The Parish Council, our local councillors and our MP have also given their generous support.
Work will start on Monday but many questions still remain.
The Council is very coy about who will develop the site and who will occupy it; they refuse to make the names public.
Why such secrecy? Do these potential occupiers exist outside the wishful thinking of the Council?
The Otley Road is already congested at peak times and yet the additional burden from the 700 potential employees on site is dismissed as “immaterial”.
If this scheme goes ahead it is important that it becomes a fully occupied business park. We fear that we will end up with a lose-lose situation where the residents of Baildon lose the green space, the Council loses money on its investment ending up with a partly occupied or downgraded site.
Steve Walker, Chairman BRAiD, Roundwood Road, Baildon
