SIR – Re Bradford’s ‘eco’ houses (T&A, February 7). Someone, somewhere is having a laugh at the expense of these unfortunate householders of Pavilion Gardens, who are suffering outrageous energy costs.
Because my 1930s extended semi-detached with minimal insulation, has a 38kw combi-condensing boiler powering 12 radiators and hot water, with an automatic washer, dishwasher and tumble drier etc, on electric, costing in total £113 a month!
And being retired, my wife and I have the heating, etc, running more hours a day than anybody going out to work.
But the truth must be that ‘eco’, ‘green’, ‘low carbon’ etc, is just a gimmick – and an expensive one at that.
