SIR - I wish people in high places would think carefully about what they are going to pronounce - especially the judiciary when pronouncing sentence.

It is not in the public interest for Judge Gullick, right, to say something that could be construed as praise for a burglar's expertise. I quote what he said when sentencing the burglar: "You have a reputation which seems to be warranted as a good house burglar who steals cars" (T&A, November 9).

That will do wonders for the burglar's street-cred - he can almost put it in his criminal CV and build a further reputation on it among the rest of the criminal fraternity.
