We were fully behind the long, hard campaign against the proposal to close the Bank Street post office and think that most of our readers will agree that the proof of the pudding is in what has happened since.

Although staff at the two offices which remain open in the city centre, in Sunbridge Road and Darley Street, are working hard to bridge the gap and meet the needs of shoppers, office workers and small businesses, the branches can be overcrowded at peak times. They are also inconveniently placed for those who work in, or need to visit, the bottom end of town.

It was always our belief that the Post Office should have bided its time until the Broadway development was up and running because the creation of 100 or so shops will bring many more people into that area.

It was extremely short-sighted to close such a well-used office, especially when there was so much protest against it. However, when the regrettable decision was taken we called on the Post Office to think again about its provision in the city centre and take steps to open a new office within the Broadway development.

So we believe our readers will be delighted that the Council and Bradford Centre Regeneration have taken up the baton and are now pushing for a new post office to be included in the £300 million scheme.

We're sure they will have the full support of the majority of readers and hope the Post Office will take the issue seriously and begin its approaches to Westfield, the developers, to make it happen.
