SIR – At 5.30am on January 21, my early morning cuppa and TV news were disturbed by the sounds of an engine revving its bottom off.
I looked from my window and there was a van stuck in drifted snow at the junction with Crossdale Avenue. I thought on the same lines as Mr Bollatteli – ‘why always me?’ I donned my coat and boots and dug out a spade, and after a while, we got the chap on his way to work.
Some time later, a T&A delivery van fell foul of the same spot. A bit of shoving and he too was soon on his way.
An egg distribution van was the next victim; this vehicle had very poor traction and proved to be a bit of a pain to get moving.
The fun hadn’t even started yet – I made my way to the allotment to sort the chickens out, digging out the coop, freeing frozen cocks, de-icing frozen water containers etc.
