SIR – The latest false promise from PM David Cameron of a vague and indeterminate date for an EU referendum in 2018 – if Conservatives win the 2015 election (unlikely) with him as leader (doubtful) reminds me of that sign in pubs years ago: Free beer – tomorrow.
People must wonder why the Falkland Islanders can have a referendum on staying British in March this year and Scotland a vote on independence next year in 2014, but us on the vital EU question, never.
Although, of course, obfuscation or prevarication over Europe which is political code for lies, have been the hallmark of politicians of all three main parties for the last 50 years. No wonder so many people now don’t bother to vote in any elections at all.
