SIR – Your inaccurate headline, “Snow forces 200 schools to shut” merely panders to the wimp mentality at large. No ‘force’ was involved at all.
What happened was this: A normal, seasonal, predictable and well-forecast weather event occurred, which then presented the opportunity for a bunch of feather-bedded non-professionals to claim a day in bed while failing in their primary duty, yet still getting paid.
Next time a few well-forecast white flakes descend, perhaps your headline should read “Snow enables 200 schools to shut” or even “Snow gives wimps at 200 schools a day off”.
Both those phrases would at least pass the test of journalistic accuracy and may even shame those adult-truants into recognising what we pay them so much to turn up and perform every term-day.
