SIR – Further to the recent period of wintry weather, I would like to thank the Council workers and the emergency services for the work that they did to keep the area moving.
We are all quick to complain when the highway network comes to a standstill during times of snowfall, so it seems only fair to be grateful when the network is largely kept functioning, as this has a knock-on effect on many other aspects of life, such as work and school, which we can continue with but may otherwise have to put on hold.
While there were some school closures and not everyone made it to work, and while each and every one of us rightly considers the road where we live to be important for clearing, is not practically possible to clear each and every road and I understand that the ploughs ensured that ambulances could get access, to help those in urgent need.
In the circumstances, I for one felt that overall the weather did not inconvenience us as it has done in the past and the situation was dealt with rather well.
I hope that future incidents, including those where the snow starts falling overnight, are handled this well.
Councillor Glen Miller, leader of the Conservative Group c/o Bradford City Hall
