SIR – The problem of the Civic Centre, or the Mechanics Institute as it used to be known, is still a long way from being solved.

The old building was very popular with dancegoers in the 1950s and 1960s. The annual St Patrick’s Day dance was a delight to thousands of people and the little theatre group always staged classic entertainment.

In an ideal world, if the powers-that-be had an ounce of gumption between them, they ought to have solved this thorny issue long ago.
