SIR – How wrong can my socialist friend get? (“Excuses wearing thin”, Christopher Hindle, Letters, December 10).

Chris is way out of line in his criticism of the current Government and his support for the incompetents that preceded it.

And, yes, Labour were to blame – are to blame and will still be to blame for the economic mess that the country is in. It’s going to take some time to turn the ship around and merely stop debt from growing.

The main reason for continued borrowing is the economic pack of cards built on debt by the last Labour Government. Perhaps things would not have been so bad if Labour in Government had insisted that the likes of Starbucks had paid their dues to the Exchequer.
