SIR – Offenders are to clear snow from pavements, roads and car parks (T&A, December 6).
Apparently, offenders on Community Payback Orders are to be redirected from other tasks. A spokesperson of Community Payback in Bradford states: “We are pleased to utilise the offenders’ payback hours to help local people as and when the need arises.”
So there it is in black and white, the answer to the question that’s been on the lips of market traders in Bingley: “Who will erect and dismantle our stalls?”
Just think, miscreants are rolling out of the magistrates court almost as fast as Jowet cars used to roll off the production line at Idle, and are, without a doubt, likely to do so for the foreseeable future, thus ensuring a never-ending supply of stall erectors/dismantlers.
This plan – let’s call it Plan A – should save Bradford Council thousands of pounds each year if adopted, but, just in case someone in City Hall vetoes the idea, here’s Plan B: erect permanent stalls in Bingley a la Shipley and solve the problem once and for all.
