SIR – Mr Kris Hopkins MP has said, in the context of grooming, that most mainstream politicians have failed to address the issue. Included among those failing politicians is one Kris Hopkins.
In 2005, Dr James Lewthwaite, and his then-BNP colleagues on Bradford Metropolitan District Council, proposed a motion condemning grooming and urging action to stop it. All other councillors, including Kris Hopkins, voted against the motion.
Furthermore, they have failed since to propose their own motion condemning the practice.
I could not improve on the words of the spokesman for the Bradford Council for Mosques: “Mr Hopkins as leader of the Council ‘found it convenient to remain tight-lipped’”.
Andrew Brons MEP, Independent, Yorkshire and the Humber
