SIR – The Director-General of the BBC has resigned due to recent events. It is said that he is to be paid his salary for a year, about £450,000. Is that something new? And does it apply to the general public?
I always thought that resigning from your place of work did not merit being paid for the act. It usually meant finding another job or signing on!
