SIR – I have read the recent comments and editorials concerning the parlous state of Bradford’s roads, and the city’s reputation for being one of the most congested cities in the UK.
This, of course, is entirely due to the influence of the green lobby, which opposed the 1960/1970s road schemes for the inner and outer Bradford ring road as well as the Aire Valley motorway. Had these schemes been implemented, we would not be in the mess we are today.
That same lobby pursues the arrant nonsense of global warming and climate change not only to prevent new and much-needed investment/employment in new roads but also the promotion of inefficient and uneconomic wind farms.
Had this malign influence been prevalent in the 19th and 20th centuries, we would have had no canals, no railways, no electricity, no automobiles etc.
We need a return to the ethos of the industrial revolution, not a step back to the dark ages!
