SIR – The Executive of Bradford’s Labour-controlled Council has instigated a cut of £88,000 in spending on public toilets leading to a plan to reduce opening hours and the removal of attendants from some toilets.
One proposed victim of the cuts are the toilets in Saltaire, a world heritage site and a prime tourist attraction in the district. Given that the development of tourism is a major plank in the district’s regeneration plans, this seems to be particularly short-sighted.
In the context of a budget of more than £400 million this is small saving compared to the inconvenience caused to the public.
If savings in labour costs are required perhaps those who had no Plan B for the Westfield development might be put into the frame.
