SIR – What a pity, the Tories no longer seem to support the police. The Home Secretary intends to opt out of European Law and Order measures, because Tories oppose all co-operation with Europe.

They want to withdraw from the International Arrest warrant, which led to the arrest of a July 2005 bomber in Italy, and recently the male teacher who took a 15-year-old girl to France.

They also oppose Europe’s Police Intelligence Agency (Europol), which helped uncover the world’s largest paedophile network, and the Joint Investigative Team who allowed British police to work in France after the murder of a British family near Annecy last month.

With the support of UKIP, most Tory MPs like Philip Davies from Shipley – who poses as “tough” on criminals — have insular minds and are paranoid about Europe.

Will one local Tory or Lib Dem MP oppose these daft plans in your paper?

The Home Secretary intends to cut police resources and reduce the chances of catching serious international criminals. Drug-smugglers and human traffickers may laugh at British Government, but their victims won’t.
