Nearly 200,000 more shoppers flocked to the Whitgift Centre in the week before Christmas than they did last year. The figures recorded by the Whitgift Centre topped 1,100,000 for the seven days leading up to Christmas 2000.In 1999 the crowds only just broke the 900,000 mark.The Tramlink carried just under 60,000 passengers a day over the Christmas period with the New Addington line continuing to be the busiest.
