THIS category is to celebrate outstanding achievement or dedication of an individual nursery or primary school teacher, responsible for inspiring and engaging children at the start of their education.

When children start nursery or school it is often the first time they have been away from parental control. The teacher becomes the first non-family authority figure that child will likely encounter, and so the importance of such teachers cannot be understated.

In later years of primary school, teachers must excite and inspire, as well as prepare young minds for secondary school.

Do you know a teacher who makes learning special, and inspires young children to great things? Has your child had a teacher that has made a noticeable impact on their lives? Do they do something a bit different to make every school day special? Have they taken a child who doesn’t like school and turned them into one that can’t wait to go through the school gates each morning?

Let us know their stories, and why you feel they should be named as the best primary or nursery teacher in the district.

The most recent winner, Janet Clay, was nominated for her work as leader of the designated specialist provision for autism at Denholme Primary School where she “changes the lives” of the children there.
