SIR – How can any councillor or developer look at the sorry state into which the once-beautiful Odeon has been deliberately allowed to deteriorate and still claim to be improving Bradford?
What has happened to the “sprucing up” that was promised for the Odeon last year? Is the Council afraid the beauty of its distinctive architecture will shine through any reluctant cosmetic work they carry out?
Maybe they fear that any new council, with more appreciation of the aesthetic, may challenge the demolition if this were done, especially as no news is yet forthcoming regarding any of the prerequisite tenants having been secured for the proposed replacement.
Let us challenge the Council to incorporate the Odeon clean-up in tandem with the Westfield tidying-up, as apparently the plans for both major works will take years to reach fruition, by which time, hopefully, the Odeon may be reprieved and restored to the concert/community venue for which it was intended.
