SIR – On August 15, my husband and I, both senior citizens, decided to visit the Bronte Parsonage Museum. We parked in the Changegate car park at North Street, Haworth. My husband paid for two hours and quite inadvertently parked no more than six inches over the line.

Nevertheless, when we returned, we found our car had been clamped, even though it would not have blocked or stopped anyone else parking. Our entreaties to the car-park attendant fell on deaf ears.

The car near us was also clamped – the owner said he and his wife and friend were actually in the car about to drive out when the attendant stopped him and clamped his car.

All in all there were four cars clamped in the space of about one hour. Also, a disabled car, although not clamped, had a notice to say the driver was fined £75 for illegal parking.

Several local people told us that the car park was noted for its sharp practice, and apologised for the way we were treated. This does not reflect very well on Haworth and visitors would be well advised to avoid this car park.

I will appeal, but do not hold out much hope.
