SIR - In my mind Bradford’s future rests with our young people. Every child deserves the best possible education and that includes providing sufficient school places where they are needed and that includes Wharfedale too.
I note that the Executive Member for Children and Young People’s Services blames our current government for cutting funding for a new school in Wharfedale. He has a short memory, for wasn’t it the previous government who left a note in the treasury saying ‘The money is all gone’? The rest is history!
Parents in Wharfedale want our council to ask for funding for a new school. The current application which has been referred to would only allow Ilkley Grammar School to make some alterations on the existing site.
That in my mind is a sticking plaster job. We need to plan for the future and the petition simply asks the council to be proactive, to start the process.
It will probably take years to achieve but it needs to be started now as new building developments will bring even more families and exacerbate the problem. Please sign the e petition to support parents in Wharfedale.
Cllr Jackie Whiteley, Wharfedale Ward, Bradford Council
