SIR - I have just returned from a holiday in Turkey where the plight of the many street cats scavenging for food was a stark reminder of why we must never take our local cat rescue for granted.

Yorkshire Cat Rescue needs your support more than ever. It is only thanks to caring members of the public who donate cash or support its charity shops in Keighley and Halifax that it manages to meet its monthly vet bills which now stand at around £10,000. The overall running costs are much higher and as winter approaches heating the pens will add to this.

Yorkshire Cat Rescue has still not secured the substantial funds it needs to build a permanent cat rescue centre. If it doesn’t get your help it may be forced to shut down within the next decade.

The charity’s 1000 Champions campaign is in need of much more support.

Surely there are 1000 individuals or groups willing to undertake fundraising of just £1000 each to enable it to meet its target of £100,000 to kick start the new centre initiative?

If five of you get together as one champion that breaks it down to just £200 each!
