SIR – Re “Liberal Betrayal”. Like Mr Harry Watson, I was interested in the thoughts of Mr Parsons (Letters, August 22).
Mr Parsons doesn’t see the irony in complaining of, (not total), Lib-Dem support for Tory plans to increase LABOUR’S tuition fees whilst also complaining Lib-Dems set too-high-a-threshold for payback.
Unlike Mr Parsons, I don’t find it terrible that many poorer graduates may pay back little or nothing at all! (Mr Parsons will find his elbows on his arms, some distance from that other part of his anatomy).
As for “treachery” and “lies”, Mr Watson – get a life! The Lib-Dem leadership may have felt obliged to break a promise or scrap intended policies to reach agreement in the coalition. They would have been implemented by a majority Lib-Dem government and ignored by majority Tory or Labour governments.
