SIR – We are all Palestinians. Recently you have published letters from Israel apologists, confusing anti-Zionism with anti-Semitism. In fact, Palestine support groups have many Jewish members, who are often the best-informed and most vocal critics of Israeli government policy.
A letter in the Guardian (August 16), signed by nearly 300 Holocaust survivors and their descendants, condemns the massacres in Gaza; the “racist dehumanization of Palestinians in Israeli society”; the politicians and pundits “openly calling for genocide of Palestinians” and adoption of “neo-Nazi insignia” by right-wing Israelis.
It is general knowledge that Israel’s aims were to break the Palestinians’ will to resist and to destroy the unity government of Fatah and Hamas. In both they have spectacularly failed. Palestinians are united now as never before, and not just politically. Where mosques have been destroyed, Christians have welcomed Muslims to worship in their churches.
From the brutal, illegal carnage of Gaza a new spirit has arisen. Palestinians and their rapidly-growing band of supporters worldwide are raising the defiant cry “in our thousands, in our millions, we are all Palestinians!”
