SIR - Apologies to Rudi Leavor, (“Stop the rockets”, Letters, July 23). I’ve visited Israel and know that not all Israeli-Arabs are treated as second-class citizens, (at least not all the time).

One such person wrote in last weekend’s Observer of his friendly Jewish neighbours, deciding only to leave for the USA after Jewish youths marched through town shouting “Death to Arabs”.

Too often, Palestinians in occupied territories are treated as second class humans, eg humiliated and forced to queue in oppressive heat through checkpoints even when ill and infirm.

How would Mr Leavor persuade Israel to leave illegally-occupied territory and abandon illegal settlements?

In addition, the international community and Israel should compensate internally-displaced Arab families dispossessed when Israel was formed.

Stop the rockets indeed, but how does one persuade zionists to accept that they don’t have a god-given right to Palestinian land?

Members of Jewish Voice for Peace occupied Israeli offices in the US.

They read the names of Palestinians killed in the recent conflict. They still had not finished when arrested an hour later.
